Desktop app messages: printer, labels, scale and backup
How to fix printer not found, Adobe Reader, Spire.Pdf.dll, label barcode could not be drawn, PDF could not be opened, scale port and backup error messages.
This page lists the warnings and error messages the BenimPOS desktop app shows when printing receipts and labels, connecting a scale and making backups. Under each message you will find what it means, why it appears and what to do. Search the page for the first words of the message on your screen (Ctrl+F). Parts shown as <…> in the messages appear on screen as a product name, an amount or error details.
Receipt printing
Details: The receipt printer doesn't print.
"You need to make a sale before you can print."
"Waiting for a sale."
What it means: F9 prints the receipt of the last sale; no sale has been made in this session yet.
What to do: For the receipt of an older sale, double-click the sale in Reports › Sales Report and use Print in the sale details.
"Printer not found. Make sure a printer is installed in Windows and set as the default printer, and that the printer is on and connected."
"Could not print"
What it means: The printer to send the receipt to could not be found.
Why it appears: The desktop app sends receipts to the Windows default printer; the printer isn't installed, is turned off, its cable is unplugged or it isn't set as default.
What to do: Turn on and connect the printer. In Windows Settings › Printers & scanners, make your receipt printer the default (with "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off) and print a test page. If the test page doesn't print either, the problem is the printer driver; the driver should be installed by the shop you bought the printer from or a computer technician.
"An error occurred while printing. You need to install Adobe Reader on your computer or set it as the default for .pdf files."
"Printing could not be started."
What it means: The receipt could not be printed through the PDF program.
Why it appears: In Settings › Profile settings, PRINT PREFERENCE is set to "Print with Adobe Reader", but there is no program on the computer that opens PDFs.
What to do: Set PRINT PREFERENCE to Print Directly and press Save Changes; you don't need to install Adobe Reader. Then try again with F9.
"An error occurred while printing. Check whether the Spire.Pdf.dll and Spire.License.dll files are in your app folder. If not, download the latest app from our website and copy only the .dll files to the folder."
What it means: The app's printing component didn't work.
Why it appears: The printing files in the app folder are missing or damaged; usually an antivirus deletes or quarantines these files.
What to do: Allow the BenimPOS folder in your antivirus and install the latest version from benimpos.com/masaustu (your data is not deleted). If you're not sure, write to our WhatsApp support line (weekdays 09:00–18:00) with a screenshot of the message.
"An error occurred while printing the exchange receipt."
What it means: The exchange receipt was created but could not be printed.
Why it appears: The printer was not found, or there is a problem with the print preference.
What to do: Do the printer checks above and press Exchange receipt again in the sale details.
Labels and PDF
Details: Printing shelf labels.
"Add products to the list before generating labels."
"The list is empty"
What it means: There are no products in the label list.
What to do: Add products by scanning barcodes, with Select Product or Add All Products, then press Generate Labels.
"Labels have been created. The following barcodes could not be converted to barcode lines (they contain a Turkish letter or a character that can't be used in a barcode). The labels of these products show the barcode number without lines: <product list> For a scannable label, you can edit the barcode on the product card using only digits and English letters."
"Some barcodes could not be drawn"
What it means: The labels are ready, but the barcodes of the listed products could not be printed as lines; only the number was printed.
Why it appears: The barcodes of these products contain a Turkish letter (ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü), a space or a special character.
What to do: For a scannable label, edit the barcode on the product card with Change Barcode using only digits and English letters, or give it a new barcode with New Barcode.
"The PDF file has been created, but no program to open PDFs was found on your computer. The folder containing the file has been opened; you can open the file with Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or any PDF program and print it. <file path>"
"PDF created"
What it means: The label or report PDF was prepared, but the computer has no default program to open PDFs.
What to do: Right-click the file in the folder that opened, choose Open with › Microsoft Edge (or Chrome) and print from there. If you like, set a default program for PDFs in Windows.
"Printer <printer name> not found. Make sure the printer is on and connected to the computer, select it again from the list or continue with the "Open as PDF" option."
"Could not print the label"
What it means: The label printer selected in Single Label Generator could not be found in Windows.
Why it appears: The printer is off or not connected, its driver was removed, or the printer's name in Windows changed.
What to do: Turn on and connect the printer, close and reopen the screen and select your printer again from the PRINTER list. In an emergency, choose Open as PDF and print from the PDF.
"First select your label printer from the "PRINTER" list."
"No printer selected"
What it means: Test label or Preview needs a printer; Open as PDF is selected in PRINTER.
What to do: Select your label printer from the PRINTER list and try again.
"Label width and height must be between 10 and 300 mm."
What to do: Enter your label size in millimeters in Label size (e.g. 60 and 30). Offset values can be at most 20 mm.
Scale
Details: Selling with a scale.
"Select the port the scale is connected to."
"Select a port."
What it means: The scale is enabled but no scale port is selected.
What to do: In Settings › Profile settings › Scale card, select the scale's COM port in SCALE PORT and save; the port must also be selected on the scale card on the sales screen.
"No active port connected to your computer was found."
"No port connection found."
What it means: No COM port that the scale could use was found on the computer.
Why it appears: The scale isn't plugged in, the USB / RS232 adapter driver isn't installed, or the cable has a loose contact.
What to do: Plug the cable into another USB port. If a driver is needed, install it with Install Scale Driver on the sales screen (usually CH340), then close and reopen the sales screen. If the port doesn't show in Device Manager, the problem is the cable / adapter.
Manual backup
Details: Desktop updates and backups.
"The operation could not be completed. Error: <error details>"
"Backup error!"
What it means: The backup files could not be copied to the folder you selected.
Why it appears: There is no permission to write to the folder, the USB stick was removed, or the disk is full.
What to do: The Desktop and Documents folders may be blocked for writing by Windows controlled folder access or by OneDrive sync. Choose another folder such as C:\BenimPOS Backup, or a USB stick with free space, and try again. If you have internet and a license, your data is synced to your cloud account anyway.
